It is important that the water purifier be kept in the best state to keep the quality of drinking water at its best level. A well-maintained purifier will ensure not just clean water but also keep the device working for a longer time.

Here is an elaborate list detailing the periods when different types of commonly used water purifier filters should be replaced:

1.  Pre-Filter(PP Cotton Filter)

The pre-filter, often made from polypropylene (PP) cotton, is the first line of defense against larger particles such as sediment, rust, and dirt. This filter typically needs to be replaced every 3 to 6 months. The exact replacement period can vary depending on the quality of your water supply and how frequently you use your purifier. Regularly replacing the pre-filter helps protect subsequent filters from clogging and extends their lifespan.

2. Activated Carbon Filter

Activated carbon filters are essential for removing chlorine, bad odors, and organic compounds from water. These filters generally require replacement every 6 to 12 months. Poor water quality or high usage rates can also necessitate more frequent replacements.

3. Ultrafiltration (UF) Membrane

Ultrafiltration membranes are effective at removing bacteria and viruses while allowing beneficial minerals to pass through. Typically, UF membranes need to be replaced every 2 to 3 years. However, this timeframe can vary based on local water conditions and usage patterns. Regular maintenance checks can help determine if an earlier replacement is necessary.

4. Reverse Osmosis (RO) Membrane

Reverse osmosis membranes are highly efficient at removing dissolved salts, heavy metals, and other impurities from water. These membranes usually require replacement every 2 to 3 years but may need changing sooner if the input water quality is particularly poor or if the system is used heavily. Monitoring the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) levels in your purified water can help you gauge when it's time for a new RO membrane.

5. Post-Carbon Filter

The post-carbon filter acts as a final polishing step before the purified water reaches your tap, enhancing taste by removing any remaining odors or tastes that might have passed through previous stages of filtration. This filter should be replaced approximately every 1 to 2 years or whenever there is a noticeable decline in water quality.

Lifespan of Water Purifier Pressure Tanks

The period of a water purifier pressure tank life span in a water purifier is on average between two and three years. The duration is dependent on a few factors but most notably, how often the water purifier is used and the hardness level of the water being filtered through it. The presence of calcium and magnesium elements caused by hard water results in scaling. This act can lead to inefficiency— hence making the pressure tank unproductive and significantly decreasing its life expectancy.

Checking for Leaks

Regularly inspect your water purifier for any signs of leaks. Leaks can lead to water wastage and may indicate a problem with the system. If you notice any leaks, address them immediately. Tighten any loose connections and replace any damaged parts to prevent further issues.

Replacing Parts as Needed

Changing the Filters

As mentioned earlier, filters need to be replaced periodically. Depending on the type of water purifier you have, the frequency of filter replacement may vary.

Replacing the UV Lamp

If your water purifier uses UV technology, the UV lamp will need to be replaced periodically. The effectiveness of the UV lamp diminishes over time, and it is usually recommended to replace it once a year.

Monitoring Water Quality

Regular Water Testing

Regularly testing the quality of your water can help you identify any issues with your water purifier. You can use a home water testing kit to check for contaminants such as chlorine, lead, and bacteria.

Observing Changes in Taste and Odor

If you notice any changes in the taste or odor of your water, it could indicate a problem with your water purifier. These changes can be a sign that the filters are clogged or that the system needs cleaning.
